Main Cast Announced for Stolen

Netflix has just announced the main cast for the upcoming film adaptation of Ann-Helén Laestadius’s runaway bestseller Stolen.

Elin Kristina Oskal will be playing the leading role of Elsa, alongside Lars-Ánte Wasara as Mattias. They are joined by experienced actor Martin Wallström (Mr. Robot), among others. Filming commenced in Sápmi a few weeks ago, and Ann-Helén, who is also attached as executive producer, had this to say after visiting set:

“I was on set for two days last week and it was truly magical to see my characters come to life, and to see Elle Márjá Eira directing in Sámi. It was then that it really struck me just how Sámi this film will be. I am beyond thrilled that filming is taking place in my home region and that there are so many Sámi who get the chance to become actors. Elin Kristina Oskal and Lars-Ánte Wasara are perfect as Elsa and Mattias. Both of them are acting with such warmth and vulnerability, it was truly heartwarming to see.”

Stolen marks Elin Kristina Oskal’s acting debut in a feature film. She says in a comment:

“It’s incredibly cool to get to know the film industry from the inside – I have always been curious about it. I’m so grateful to be a part of this!”

At the helm of the production is director Elle Márjá Eira (The Sámi Have Rights, Ealát) who says:

“We’re in the midst of production right now. It has been exciting and demanding days in minus 35 degrees. We love snow! I am so impressed and proud of the whole cast and crew – especially the Sami. It’s also incredibly beautiful to be able to speak my own language, which is Sami, on set.”

Screen writer is Peter Birro (Monica Z, 438 Days) producer is Khalil Al Harbiti for Kolibri Productions.

Stolen is planned to be launched globally on Netflix in 2024. Read more from Netflix here.
